Daning started his career in the spirits industry in 1989 in Taiwan, shortly before the government monopoly on imported spirits ended in 1990, working for a joint venture company between a local partner and Remy Cointreau. In 1999, this company became Maxxium Taiwan and Daning was made general manager.

At that time, Daning led the team as the first to promote and educate the single malt whisky market in Taiwan and has supported the growth of this category ever since, including helping to build The Macallan as the leading single malt brand in Taiwan in the beginning of the 21st century. Inspired by the brand’s success, many single malt whisky brands entered the Taiwanese market.

In 2004, Daning introduced the first launch of The Famous Grouse blended malt whisky in Taiwan. Its huge success attracted many whisky brands to introduce their versions of the blended malt whisky in the country, helping to establish the blended malt whisky category in Taiwan.

After his retirement from the Edrington in 2009, he briefly ran his own wine distribution company, but came back to the whisky industry in 2015 to distribute the Whyte & Mackay portfolio including the Dalmore, which has become one of the leading single malt whisky brands in Taiwan. He was inducted as a Master of the Quaich in 2017.

Daning is widely recognised by the media and the industry as a trendsetter and an incredibly passionate advocate of whisky in Taiwan.
