Whiskies - 2018

England
The Ronnie Cox and whisky story goes back some 40 years, and is awash with tales of drugs barons, guns and of course whisky shipments.

However Ronnie’s connections with whisky run a lot deeper than that. He comes from seven generations of whisky makers, just to keep the intrigue going two were illegal and were fined for making and selling whisky.

The now Berry Bros. & Rudd brands heritage director cut his teeth in the industry directly after school. Foregoing university, his career in the drinks industry started in Germany for a sparkling wine brand. Eventually returning to the UK, Ronnie began to work his way up through the whisky industry. For the next few months he worked in a handful of distilleries, learning more about whisky as he went. Eventually he landed up with Black & White and Buchanan’s, then part of Distillers Company Limited now Diageo, in Latin American.

Several years later in 1989, he went to work for Berry Bros. & Rudd, where he was put in charge of the Cutty Sark blend, once again in the Latin America region.

An engaging raconteur, Ronnie is always a pleasure to listen to and learn from, whether it’s dealing with gun toting cartel members, how to move from age statements to vintages successfully or just a chat about the history of the whisky industry.

A passionate advocate for the entire Scotch whisky category, and let’s not forget red socks, Ronnie always entertains and educates.
